Chapter Chapter 100 - Provincial Competition - Ability User End translator: xiin editor: kara
They didn't have to wait too long. The assassin moved again very soon after.
The ability user had long been alert and ready. This time, he was at an absolute disadvantage when it came to his health levels, so he gave up a portion of his attack power and instead used it to harden the vines. This kind of vine was very brittle (easy to break) and had completely lost its flexibility, but its hardness had been greatly improved, and it was no longer easy to cut. It was an extremely practical defense against cold weapons.
Because Odin's first round of attacks had been so fierce that it was nearly inconceivable, Little De was now very nervous--and so were the commentators.
Male commentator: "If his first round of attacks can break through the defense again, then Odin will win directly."
Female commentator: "If he's blocked by Little De, then there might be another round of attacks. This is also possible since Odin's already lost his Song of Triumph and only has his dagger in hand. In fact, his health bar isn't that healthy either at around only 50%. If Little De can release another full round of damage, he might be able to turn the tables."
Professional characteristics determined the rhythm of the game. An assassin's matches were always 'you die, so I can live', dancing on the tip of the blade.
.
Just like the last time, Odin chose to directly use Flash and approach his enemy on the swamp head-on--this was the best way for him to approach, bar none.
Less than a second after his Flash, the ability user had already raised up all his vines and was waiting for his arrival!
He'd hoped to be able to catch hold of Odin first, but Odin hadn't landed in the best attacking position like he'd expected!
Male commentator: "He didn't use a windmill combo?"
Female commentator: "What's the situation? He just landed!"
Odin landed lightly. He wasn't in a hurry to attack the vines that protected Little De and instead stepped on his vines.
The hardened vines had almost completely lost their ability to react to their enemy and simply provided passive defense.
Odin stepped on them gently, ignoring the aggressive vines that were eagerly heading towards him, and used Flash again--
He'd Flashed towards the ability user's back, but there was no platform there!
The two commentators were a little confused. The female commentator spoke up, "He's going to fall into the swamp!"
As soon as her voice fell, they saw something they hadn't expected spring out of the swamp--
Crocodile!
The crocodiles instinctively attacked the prey closest to them in the blink of an eye.
Odin had just landed near it, so it hadn't hesitated to open its big mouth. Its powerful tail pushed it out of the water in a burst, and most of its body was out of the swamp as it bit fiercely at Odin, who was in mid-air.
However, everyone knew that even nature's fiercest animals posed no threat to players of this level.
His step sent it straight back into the swamp!
The female commentator was left with her mouth open in surprise.
Male commentator: "This foothold! I'm convinced! Even those who can't accept it must be convinced!"
The audience in the scrolling comments were also momentarily stunned, and the comments slowed slightly, "Ah, the great demon king's number one mount is a crocodile monster. I actually seem to find this kind of devilish setting to be quite interesting?"
"Have you guys ever considered the crocodile's feelings?! How can it go out and act as the overlord of the swamp like this? Predators also have self-esteem, hey!"
.
Odin took this opportunity to find a leverage point behind the ability user, then used another flash, and broke through Little De's defense from the back!
The crocodile that he'd used as a stepping stone snapped, its snout having been pressed completely back into the swamp by the move and leaving only two or three air bubbles in its wake.
At this time, Little De was still shifting together the vines behind him out of fear. Compared to his front side, the defenses for his back side were weaker, because he'd never thought Odin would have already used Shadow Jump and actually used this kind of method instead to attack him from behind.
Behind him, Odin had already broken through. His dagger was aimed at a very obvious position and was pointed at Little De's heart from the back.
Male commentator: "Odin chose to attack after landing. Alright, let's take a look at the outcome of this round!"
Female commentator: "This positioning is the most suited for a high-speed, single-handed weapon combo. Odin pulls out--"
Male commentator: "Where's his dagger? Where's his dagger?!!!"
Odin's remaining dagger, Deep Silence, had actually disappeared!
He was empty-handed as he headed towards the ability user's back--but, it was enough to scare his opponent into turning pale as he hurriedly set up his defense. However, Odin simply greeted him with a 'hello' in a natural and easy manner before Flashing back to the stone path.
Everyone: "......"
The female commentator cursed, "Those from the city have deep tricks, I really don't f*cking understand!"
The male commentator was stunned for a moment, but he soon realized, "... He's laying out a line!"
.
As soon as the male commentator had finished speaking, they saw Odin, who had just landed on the stone path, use the full strength of his right hand and elbow to pull on a thick steel wire--
In order to ensure that it was strong enough, he'd twisted three wires together.
As Odin applied strength, the audience could see two nearly invisible steel wires stretching from his hands, one on the left and one on the right, making it difficult for the ability user to move.
Then, he whistled, and there was a flash along the road, which immediately affected the two steel wires!
Then, they saw a crocodile jump out of the water from behind the ability user!
Embedded in the crocodile's snout was a snow-white dagger, Deep Silence. Wrapped around the handle of Deep Silence was one end of a steel wire.
As the steel wire was retracted, all the inconspicuous vines revealed themselves and tightened up, holding the ability user tightly in the middle.
The male commentator suddenly grew excited, "That's right, this is the vines' Achilles's heel! They are easily used for binding others, but it's also difficult for them to break out of confinement--"
He'd only spoken halfway when he saw Odin tug abruptly on this line of death without even turning back to look.
In this moment, the mighty vine fortress seemed to have been cut apart by God's hands!
The vines above the waist were all cut off, the dead tentacles falling into the swamp. The lead-grey, hardened vines had been caught by two steel wires, the displacement caused by the differing angles making them split apart.
--Revealing the soft fruit within that was unable to protect itself.
.
Odin sent out a series of darts as he turned gracefully--
Male commentator: "One dart... two darts... Little De is done for."
Odin stopped shooting after two darts. His prediction had indeed been accurate.
Little De had done his best, pulling out his handgun in order to try and take away some of Odin's health, but it was to no avail.
These two darts were just enough to take away the remaining 7% of Little De's life.
The commentators scrubbed their faces. They had really never thought that this match, which started at full steam and with so much enthusiasm, would finally come to such a casual and easy end.
The male commentator's heart quivered. He suddenly had an even greater sense of the great demon king, Odin's terror: He'd made everyone extremely afraid of his powerful attacks, but he wasn't a player who blindly attacked. Instead, he used their misconception. This kind of fear...
--Was like having a great demon king who actually enjoyed and even guided everyone's fear.
Male commentator: "......" Damn, the great demon king was scary.
.
The game ended here. There was no second match during the finals for the top six, and the final score was determined by the system:
Odin scored 3 points for the victory.
Odin scored 1 point for the duration of the game.
Odin scored a total of 4 points, and his total was now 7; Little De had gained 0 points, and his total was 4.
The game had lasted around 26 seconds, and most of that time had been spent dealing with this troublesome map. However, as long as an opponent was dealt with in under 30 seconds, the winner would obtain an extra point for time. Unfortunately, Odin was 1 or 2% short of gaining another advantage point, which required the winner to have over 50% more health than their opponent.
Another interesting figure was that 90% of Little De's health had been lost in the first exchange of attacks, and the first exchange had lasted less than 10 seconds total.
The explosive intensity of Odin's attacks once again made everyone tremble.
The last interesting fact: This was Odin's first time losing both his dagger and short sword on the field and also a rare time where he had ended an opponent using a long-ranged attack instead.
Most of the time, Odin would return his weapons back to their sheaths after the game. He was one of the few players who always did so, and many people speculated that he had a kind of obsessive-compulsive disorder or placed extreme value on his weapons. So, during today's competition field, he'd first lost his short sword, Song of Triumph, then threw out his dagger, Deep Silence, in order to set up his trap, making people so shocked their eyes almost fell out of their sockets.
Of course, there were also a group of people with weird thoughts, who set their eyes on the unfortunate crocodile.
Brother crocodile was bitter and cute 233333--some interstellar people, whose sense of cuteness grew from their hind brains, also said such things.
.
The majority of people hadn't been mistaken. The master assassin really did cherish his weapons. Song of Triumph and Deep Silence were like old friends who'd accompanied him for many years.
On the field, he'd been extremely decisive when he had given up his weapons, but after they left the field, he suddenly became unhappy.
It was probably because his two virtual weapons disappeared after he left the arena. This left him feeling guilty with a kind of feeling of 'This is all because I left them in the swamp that they're gone'.
He really hadn't touched his old friends in a long time.
No matter how real the scenes in virtual reality were, they were still incomparable.
Tyron: "......"
Victor: "......"
Victor's head was covered in question marks. He'd watched his old antique win beautifully yet he came back with a face full of unhappiness--why was this???
Originally, Victor had had a belly full of fire--all kinds of anger! He'd already stabbed that damned, hateful tentacle monster a thousand times in his heart and had also been eager to take a bite out of Tyron when he came back!
However, when he saw his old antique looking unhappy, Victor instantly forgot all about it...
"Do you want to drink some tea?" Victor dashed around and coaxed him, "Do you want to read tonight? Watch a movie? Or, watch another two games? Tomorrow's fight is against the hacker, I can be your sandbag? Do you want to wash up? What kind of late-night snack would you like? I can go bake some biscuits, or chicken wings, or shrimp?"
